Why Hire John Schwartz?

John is a counselor in the broadest sense who provides a unique combination of experience, judgment, knowledge, practical problem solving and personal service to each of his clients. He is a careful and confident deal maker and trusted counselor who focuses on the key issues and is able to get the job done and protect his client’s vital interests in an efficient and cost effective manner. Stressing a practical business approach, John takes aggressive positions when warranted and finds innovative solutions where necessary. He also prides himself on providing genuine value for the fees he charges and on being forthright in his billing practices and giving his clients both honest and realistic fee estimates so that they are not surprised later by unanticipated costs.  The abiding principle of John’s practice is to provide the highest quality services for a reasonable cost.

Prior to focusing exclusively on the transactional field, John practiced as a business and commercial litigator (which included an appearance before the United States Supreme Court). John’s experience as a litigator has been invaluable in his transactional work because it enables John to better identify key issues that could give rise to dispute and get them resolved in advance. That experience, and the breadth of John’s exposure to all types of transactions and agreements in a wide variety of industries, has made him aware of the complexities and traps that can befall a client. As a consequence, in John’s more than three decades of transactional and M&A work he has never had an opposing party successfully make a claim against any of the clients he has represented (whether as a buyer or seller) for alleged breaches of the agreements after the deal has closed. And in those few instances in which John’s clients have had to resort to litigation to enforce any of their rights under the contracts John has negotiated they have prevailed without exception. The net result is that John has consistently been able to help his clients secure the benefit of their bargains without unnecessary or unexpected expense, distraction, surprise or liability.

Before attending law school John spent two years as an educator, and this additional skill set has also increased the depth and quality of the services he provides by amplifying his ability to counsel, educate and guide his clients through the transactional and deal making process.
